Imagine this. Someone knocks on your door, late at night, waking up your family. They want to know if someone named Gabe lives there. Annoyed at being interrupted for no reason, you tell them no. They leave. But minutes later they’re back, knocking again, asking, “Are you sure Gabe doesn’t live here?”

Irritated, you tell them no again, and demand that they leave. And they do. But not quietly. Intoxicated, the late-night-knocker has difficulty maneuvering their car, and smacks into your neighbor’s parked car. Twice. Before fleeing the scene. What would you do?

Most people would call the police. And that’s exactly what one Traverse City man did when this encounter took place in front of his home last month. But by the time officers arrived on the scene, the drunk driver was gone.

But he didn’t get far. State Police noticed him several miles away and attempted to pull him over, but he was having none of it. A short chase ensued, which led officers to use a PIT maneuver to stop his flight. Which didn’t help the driver’s mood at all.

First Gabe wasn’t at the right house. Then someone parked a car in his way, and now the police are chasing him and bumping his car. The driver, whose name it turns out was Benjamin Postoian, was mad. Court records show that he was uncooperative, spitting at a police officer and later, trying to bite one of the hospital staff where he was taken for blood tests.

Postoian, a resident of Traverse City, is now facing a number of charges for his efforts that night. In addition to super drunk driving, he is also charged with assaulting an officer, fleeing and eluding police, resisting arrest. The prosecutor is apparently still reviewing the case and says that there may yet be more charges. According to the results of his brief sojourn at the hospital, his blood alcohol content was .237.

Apparently, Postoian also had a passenger in his vehicle, who was later charged with being a minor in possession of alcohol. However, being a minor, the name was not released.

If there’s one piece of advice we can give in the wake of this story, it’s this: don’t drive drunk. Drunk people frequently make bad choices, like hitting parked cars, running away from police officers, and even spitting at them. This inevitably leads to additional charges.

Oh, and never bite nurses. It almost always irritates them. It never pays to irritate the person with all the needles!
