While the movies make fleeing from the cops look like an exciting and, in many cases successful, endeavor, the truth is another kettle of fish entirely. Very few people who try to outrun the police actually get away with it. Especially when they’re intoxicated. Which was certainly the case one Cadillac resident who led officers on a wild, high speed ride recently, and ended up behind bars.
The Wexford County Sheriff’s Office put out a press release just days ago, explaining the events, and this is what it had to say:
Sheriff’s deputies were patrolling in Antioch, when they noticed a car that was speeding. Following standard procedure, they followed the vehicle and attempted to pull the driver over for speeding. But the driver, a 53-year-old man, had other plans for the night.
Instead of pulling over when the deputies followed him, lights and sirens blaring, he sped up. So much so that he was actually traveling in excess of 100 mph at certain points. At one point the chase led down a gravel road, which if you know anything about racing, you know is one of the hardest surfaces to maintain control on.
So it came as no surprise when the driver lost control of his vehicle and ended up in a ditch on the side of the road, near the North 111/2 Road and West 181/2 Road intersection. Thankfully, no one was hurt and the suspect’s vehicle was the only one involved in the collision.
The driver was arrested by Wexford County deputies and taken into custody at the Wexford County Jail. He is being charged with operating while intoxicated, and fleeing and eluding police. He was slated to be arraigned in the Wexford County 84th District Court.
