Mecosta County Fatal Accident

Police Suspect Drunk Driving in Fatal Accident

On Sunday, October 4th, shortly after 7 pm, a fatal accident took place on M-66, just north of Four Mile road near Remus. The Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the crash, and suspects that the cause may have been alcohol.

According to the Sheriff’s Deputies who have reconstructed the accident thus far, it was a head-on collision, which cost one man his life, and put two others in hospital. 47-year-old Stacy Brown, a resident of Greenville, is said to have crossed the centerline in his northbound pickup truck and directly struck an oncoming, southbound vehicle.

The second vehicle, containing two people from Owosso, was badly damaged. The driver, 24-year-old Joseph Nicholas Genovese, was declared dead at the scene. The passenger, 22-year-old Jessica Martin, and Brown both sustained life-threatening injuries. They were airlifted to a hospital in Grand Rapids, where they remain in critical condition.

According to the Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office, the incident is currently being investigated as a drunk driving fatal accident. Thus far, no information has been released regarding Brown’s BAC at the time of the accident, or whether there were any other factors involved that night.

Few things are more awful than waking up in a hospital, faced with multiple painful injuries and thousands of dollars in hospital bills, only to discover that you are under investigation by the police as well. Being the subject of a police investigation is very stressful, but coupled with healing injuries, pain, a damaged vehicle leaving you no reliable transportation, and crippling hospital bills is beyond overwhelming.

We understand how difficult this time is for people and their loved ones. But what they need right now, more than anything, is a good defense attorney. Police officers will try to talk to them while they are still in hospital, confused by pain medications and vulnerable to misinterpretation. The sooner an accused person has a hard working, professional defense attorney on their side to protect their rights, the sooner their case can be properly resolved.

So if you or a loved one are faced with drunk driving charges, whether or not you are hospitalized, contact us immediately. We can help.
