Golfing superstar Tiger Woods was arrested for a DUI, but wasn’t drunk at all!

Being a sports celebrity can have enormous benefits. Thousands of adoring fans, tons of cash to support a lavish lifestyle, knowing that your name alone will open doors and grease wheels where others would miss out. But there are downsides to fame as well, and the first one that comes to mind is negative publicity. When an ordinary citizen does something unwise or makes a mistake, the whole world doesn’t tune in to watch what happens next. Not so for famous people.

State Rep. Arrested For Super Drunk Driving, Commits Suicide

Sadly, State Rep. Kivela took his own life after a second DUI arrest near Lansing recently.

If you’ve been following our drunk driving blog for a while, then you may remember our article about State Representative John Kivela’s DUI arrest in November of 2015. He pled guilty in January of 2016, publicly admitting that he struggled with alcohol problems and would be entering rehab to address his alcoholism. That optimistic approach has, sadly, ended in tragedy.

It is now widely considered to be a fact – distracted driving is just as dangerous, if not more so, than drunk driving. With the introduction of cellphones and other devices, people’s attempts at multitasking behind the wheel has resulted in countless deaths and injuries over the years. Police Departments all over Michigan have prioritized distracted driving, treating it much the same way as they do intoxicated driving. However it appears that awareness campaigns and expensive tickets just aren’t doing the trick.

Michigan Supreme Court to Hear ‘Driveway Drunk Driver’ Case

The Michigan Supreme Court is scheduled to hear a drunk driving case dating back to 2014 that questions the exact nature of ‘driving’ under Michigan’s DUI laws. Specifically, the case of Gino Rea who never actually left his own driveway but was drunk while sitting behind the steering wheel of his car. .

DUI Attorney App: Whatever Happened To The Duey Dialer?

Whatever happened to the Duey Dialer that got so much press in 2015?

A few years ago there was extensive media coverage for something called the Duey Dialer. It was an app available for smartphones that allowed a person who was being pulled over for drunk driving to contact a nearby attorney. The app was designed to record interactions with police officers and then pass along the recording, along with your contact information, to the closest DUI attorney.

Bill Passed Allowing Minors To Refuse Breathalyzers

New law would allow minors to refuse a breathalyzer test

A new bill dealing with chemical breath testing of minors has passed the Michigan House and is now headed to the state Senate for consideration. The bill is controversial and has met with a great deal of resistance. It would allow minors to refuse to take a breath test (PBT or DataMaster) if an officer requests it.

Drug use is frowned on, everybody knows that. So when someone gets behind the wheel of their car under the influence of drugs, people are not very forgiving.
