Drunk Driver From Ohio Charged With Attempted Murder

A rather bizarre series of events has led to one man in serious condition in the Bronson Methodist Hospital in downtown Kalamazoo, while another man, a Greek immigrant from Ohio, is in the Branch County Jail for attempted murder that he claims was actually an accident.

According to police, 31-year-old Jonathan Losinski was spending his evening in the Strike Zone, a bar and bowling alley in Bronson, when employees began noticing a van that repeatedly entered and left the parking lot throughout the evening. They felt the driver’s actions were suspicious and so took note of his comings and goings. Read more ›

Drunk Driver Arrested In Front Of Police Station

It is rare that police officers have the convenience of conducting an arrest practically on their front doorstep, but recently, a Melvindale officer had the luxury of conducting a traffic stop just outside of the police department parking lot.

Apparently, while leaving the department on Oakwood Drive, the officer was in the act of pulling out of the parking lot in his cruiser, when a green Chevy Tahoe flew by at high speed. The officer immediately pulled the vehicle over. Read more ›

Suspected Drunk Driver Hits Utility Pole

More than 700 Battle Creek Homes Lose Power

Usually, when people lose power in communities around Michigan, it’s the result of inclement weather. High winds, heavy rain or snow, and falling branches are the usual culprits. It is very rare that the cause is a single person. And even less likely that it was entirely unintentional. But that was exactly what happened in Battle Creek, early on Sunday morning…

A driver, who responding officers suspect was drinking and driving, drove off the road at the East Michigan Ave. and Gilbert Street intersection, and slammed into a utility pole which was supporting power lines that provided electricity to a substantial quantity of people in the area. Read more ›

Assistant Washtenaw County Prosecutor John Vella announced in District Court at a recent hearing that the prosecution will be adding a charge of reckless driving causing death to the existing charges. Hillsdale OWI Third – Repeat Offender

Repeat Offender Gets 3-5 Years in Prison

At a recent sentencing, Judge Michael Smith told the defendant, Ronald Allen Graves who appeared via video from the Hillsdale County Jail, that the state’s guidelines for sentencing of 7 to 23 months, fail to do justice in the wake of the charges.

“The guidelines are totally inaccurate to address these issues.” he said, referring to the fact that Graves has such an extensive record with the court, this being his second felony charge following a list of twenty-four prior misdemeanor charges, fourteen of which are alcohol related. Read more ›

Driving Drunk Charlevoix County

Ninth Conviction Sends Man to Prison

In Michigan, the law recommends that a person’s drunk driving sentences increase with each conviction, usually within a fixed period of time. Two convictions for driving drunk within a seven year period of time, or three convictions within a ten year period of time mean that one is viewed as a repeat offender by the courts.

But Keith Allen Jones, a 45-year-old resident of Charlevoix county, has been convicted nine times of drinking and driving since 1987. For that reason, the judge sentenced him to the maximum sentence allowed by the court for this offense. Read more ›

Antrim County: Impaired Driving

Academy Award-Winning Producer Pleads Guilty

Kathleen Glynn, a Michigan-based Academy and Emmy Award-winning producer, artist and costume designer, pled guilty to a misdemeanor charge of impaired driving in Antrim County. She was sentenced immediately to six months probation, three days of community service and must pay $1,150 in court fines and costs.

Glynn, 56, who is the ex-wife of filmmaker, Michael Moore, was pulled over in the late evening of July 4th in Forest Home Township. According to police records, another driver had called the Sheriff’s Department to report that they had seen a car weaving in the middle of the road. “Somebody called it in as a complaint of somebody weaving in their lane”, said a sheriff’s deputy.

A deputy was dispatched to the area, and Glynn was pulled over shortly afterwards in the vicinity of Bellaire Highway and Torch Lake Drive. When asked, she told the deputy that she was returning home from a friend’s house where she had had a few drinks.

According to Antrim County Sheriff Dan Bean, Glynn was asked to perform a roadside sobriety test, which she failed. Her breathalyzer test results showed a blood alcohol content of 0.14, which is higher than Michigan’s legal limit of 0.08. As a result, she was arrested and detained at the Antrim County’s jail.

Glynn, a native of Flint, was originally charged with operating while intoxicated (OWI), which is also a misdemeanor and punishable by:

  • $100 to $500 fine and one or more of the following:

Up to 93 days in jail, or

Up to 360 hours of community service.

  • Driver’s license suspension for 30 days, followed by license restrictions for 150 days.
  • Possible vehicle immobilization
  • Possible ignition interlock
  • Six points added to driving record
  • Driver Responsibility Fee of $1,000 for 2 consecutive years
